April 29, 30 2006

The Los Angeles Rifle & Revolver Club, celebrating its 100th Anniversary this year, hosted the Southern California Conventional Prone Regional Championship on April 29 and 30. With entrants from across California and Arizona, competition was tough in all classes both days. Conditions for the match were excellent with temperatures in the low 70’s and moderate, though gusty, winds prevailing for the weekend.

Arizonans German Salazar and Rick Curtis dominated the top of the list during the Metallic Sights portion of the match; Salazar winning three matches and Curtis one. At the end of the day, their scores stood at 1590-100X for Salazar and 1590-97X for Curtis. Californian Sam Thoman was in third place at 1584-78X, Charlie Linn of Apple Valley took Junior honors with a strong 1582-92X and Dara Zachary from Clovis was the High Woman at 1584-89X.

However, Gene Rucks of Santa Margarita, former OIC of the USMC Rifle Team slipped past them both for the daily aggregate with a 1597-106X, with Salazar second at 1596-121X and Curtis (another former USMC Rifle Team member) third at 1592-114X. Charlie Linn again took Junior honors at 1582-85X and Helen Flint of Moreno Valley was High Woman at 1590-100X.

The Grand Aggregate winner was German Salazar of Phoenix at 3186-221X, second place went to Rick Curtis, also of Phoenix at 3182-211X, third to Gene Rucks at 3179-183X.
