JusticeVision (Democracy University): Web Site Orders

1. Time-stamp: "2003-03-11 19:39:56 cymbala"
3. WHY? People enter their order (including address and contact information) into a Web form. That data needs to be transferred into our database in the office.
5. HOW? Save data onto hard drive. Delete data from Web site. Transform data for pasting into database. Modify data in database.
7. Type stuff below that appears in non-proportional bold font.
9. - connect
10. Start / Run: iexplore     <Enter>
12. - Go to JusticeVision On-Line Order Form
13. Add adummy order to end. Type:
    z z z z z z z z z
    into web form. Press Submit button. It will reply with:

    Thank you!
    Your submission has been accepted

14. - view orders (remember to REFRESH display using F5).

    • - write down date/time of dummy order at beginning and date/time of dummy order at end. Example:

15. - save data to local hard drive
    • iexplore: File / Save As ...
    • c:\Msworks\FILENAME_GOES_HERE [Web Page, HTML only (*.htm,*.html)]
      • Where did "c:\Msworks\" come from?
      • -See "cd" in c:/WINDOWS/pipe2tab.bat
      • e.g.: @cd \msworks
    • Replace existing file? YES
16. - save backup of data to local hard drive
    • iexplore: File / Save As...
    • c:\Msworks\FILENAME_GOES_HERE_backup [Web Page, HTML only (*.htm,*.html)]
    • Replace existing file? YES
17. - Open a 2nd IEXPLORE (Internet Explorer: Ctrl-N) window to delete orders from web site.
    • http://members.pdxweb.net/
    • Username: justicevision
    • Password: ********
    • Log In (button)
    • list of directories.
      "*" means click the radio button:
      * cgi-bin
    • Change Directory (button)
    • "*" means click the radio button:
      * FILENAME_GOES_HERE
    • Delete File (button)
      

      	          Delete Succesful 
      	The file FILENAME_GOES_HERE, has been removed

18. - add dummy record (2nd IEXPLORE window) with all A's:

    • Submit Order (button)
19. - view orders (1st IEXPLORE window):

    • F5 (refresh)
    • Should see just one order (dummy order with all A's).
20. - prepare temp file for import
    • Start / Run: command     <Enter>
    • Prompt will appear: C:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP>
    • Enter command: pipe2tab     <Enter>
    • Differences are displayed using viewer "less" (as in "less is more"). Only differences should be records with an address2 (that column is relocated to match column order in database).
    • 'q' to quit viewer.
    • Something like this will be displayed next:

21. - Microsoft Works
    • File / Save POSTCAST if open.
    • If not open, open POSTCAST
    • File / Open Existing File ...
    • temp (c:\msworks)
    • database
    • F9 ( View / List )
    • Check first and last rows (should be two dummy records, with A's at top and Z's at bottom).
22. - Perform a test paste
    • Select & copy one row from temp
    • In POSTCAST, Select / Show All Records
    • Paste into empty row at bottom of POSTCAST (with cursor all the way to left side).
    • On right-hand side, Date & Time should be in correct column. If not, edit pipe2tab.el The parts that need to be edited are WebFormOrder and DatabaseOrder (simply add or delete new fields and/or reorder fields).
    • Delete test record from POSTCAST. Repeat pasting a test record if pipe2tab.el was edited.
23. - After test record was successful, select all rows in temp with mouse then copy:
    Edit / Copy
24. - In POSTCAST:
    • Select / Show All Records
    • Go to last row, move down one to empty row. Now, move to first column (on left):     <Ctrl> <left-arrow>
    • Edit / Paste
    • check right-most column (date/time) and make sure ALL dates/times are in proper column.
25. - File / Save
26. - check for duplicates
    • edit order column
    • edit temp column (bulk or mult)
