I'm using a broadband connection via TimeWarner, and every time I booted my comp, there would be this delay.
Well, here's what's happening:
After initial booting, the first time any internet aware program (IE, Netscape, AIM, OE, Firefox) tries to connect to the internet, ZoneAlarmPro (ZAP) connects first and updates its antivirus and antispamware databases. Nothing else can happen on the internet until ZAP performs its updates.
So, to at least run through this in an aware manner, if you are running ZAPro, then each time you boot your computer, first open ZAP, go to AntiVirus/AntiSpyware, and perform a manual "Update Now".
Once ZAP is done updating the AV & AP, your internet connection will be fully available.
This is not any trick, this is just an observation.
