Configuring Pegasus Mail Version 4 Application

New Account Setup

This is only done the first time you start Pegasus.
  1. Start Pegasus. You get the Account Wizard.

  2. Click on the directory structure you want. You will probably want to select the one person or multiple people (top two buttons).

  3. Select the location where Pegasus files are to be saved. The default is probably goin to be the best location.

  4. Select the Next button

  5. Enter your email address
  6. Click on the Next button

  7. Enter the LAFN incoming mail server: mail.lafn.org
  8. Click on the Next button

  9. Enter your User ID (not email address)
  10. Enter your password
  11. Click on the Next button

  12. Enter the LAFN outgoing mail server: smtp.lafn.org
  13. Click on the Next button

  14. Select the connection method. Use Network if you are not connecting via dial-in but using DSL, cable modem etc.
  15. Click on the Next button

  16. Click on the Finish button

    You have now completed the basic mail setup. However, you need to enable SSL and STARTTLS before you can successfully use Pegasus.

Configuring SMTP-AUTH and SSL

  1. Start Thunderbird
  2. Click on Tools Menu
  3. Select the Internet Options Menu Item

  4. Click on the Receiving (POP3) tab

  5. Click on the LAFN host entry if its not highlighted
  6. Click on the Edit Button

  7. Here is where you can change the port. Our tests indicate that port 110 works fine.
  8. Click on the Security tab.

  9. Set SSL/TLS to Via STLS Command
  10. Click on the OK button
  11. Click on the Sending (SMTP) tab

  12. Click on the Edit button

    Here is where you can select the port 25, 26, or 587.

  13. Click on the Security tab

  14. Set the Use SSL/TLS to Via STARTTLS
  15. Select Login to the SMTP server in the SMTP Authentication section. Enter your user id and pasword.
  16. Click on the OK buttons
