Configuring Opera 8 for LAFN

If you have an existing LAFN account in Opera then go to the Account Configuration section below.

If you do not have an existing LAFN account in Opera then you need to do the following:

  1. From the Tools menu, select Mail and Chat Accounts.

  2. Click on the Yes Button.
  3. The New account wizard screen will appear.

  4. Select Regular e-mail(POP) and Click on the Next> button.

  5. Enter your name as you want it to appear in your return address.
  6. Enter your e-mail address as you want in your return address.
  7. Organization is optional.
  8. Click on the Next> button.

  9. Enter your user id (not email address) as your Login name and your password.
  10. Click on the Next> button.

  11. Set the incoming server to mail.lafn.org.
  12. Select Use secure connection (TLS)
  13. Make sure Leave messages on server is not checked.
  14. Set the outgoing server to smtp.lafn.org
  15. Click on the Finish button.

At this point the basic account setup is complete. However, you need to setup SMTP-AUTH and TLS/SSL as shown in the next section.

Account Configuration

  1. From the Tools menu, select Mail and Chat Accounts.

  2. Click on the LAFN account
  3. Click on the Edit button.

  4. Click on the Servers tab.
  5. Make sure for the Incoming POP server:
    1. Server is set to mail.lafn.org
    2. Port number is 110
    3. Secure connection (TLS) is checked
    4. Authentication is Auto
    5. Enter your username (user id, not email address) and password
  6. Make sure for the Outgoing SMTP server:
    1. Server is set to smtp.lafn.org
    2. Port number is set to 25, 26, or 587
    3. Secure Connection (TLS) is checked
    4. Authentication is set to AUTH LOGIN
    5. Enter your username (user id, not email address) and password
  7. Click on the Incoming tab:

  8. Make sure Leave messages on server is not checked.
  9. If you are going to select Check for new messages every #minutes you set it to 5 or more.
  10. The remaining options can be set as desired.
  11. Click on the OK button.
  12. Click on the Close button.

Setting the Certificates

    The first time you download mail you will receive the following dialog box:

  1. Click on the Install button to set the certificate so it will be considered acceptable for further use.

  2. Click on the OK button and mail will be downloaded.

    The first time you send mail you will receive the following dialog box:

  3. Click on the Install button to set the certificate so it will be considered acceptable for further use.

  4. Click on the OK button and mail will be sent.
