1. Send a short email to yourself.
2. Wait a couple minutes for delivery to complete.
3. Download email.
4. Obtain the full headers for that message (See FAQ Item 5.5).

There should be at least two Received: headers. Only the last one is important. It should be fairly long. You should find the following two items in that header line:

• (authenticated bits=0)
• (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=RC4-SHA bits=128 verify=NO)

the authenticated entry tells you that SMTP-AUTH is working properly. The version entry tells you that TLS/SSL is working properly.
