Installing the LAFN Root Certificate in Thunderbird

The following procedures have been tested on version 2.0.0.

First you need to download the PEM format certificate. Save it somewhere that you can easily find. Thunderbird does not use any browser's certificate cache so you have to install the certificate in Thunderbird itself.

  1. Start Thunderbird
  2. Click on the Tools menu and Account Settings menu item

  3. Click on the Security tab.

  4. Click on the View Certificates button.

  5. Click on the Authorities tab.

  6. Click on the Import button.

  7. Locate the certificate file downloaded earlier and select it.
  8. Click onthe Open button

  9. Here you will need to check at least the first 2 of the 3 checkboxes. It will not be installed unless you check one. We have tested having all three checked.
  10. Press the OK button.
  11. Select the Edit Menu and then Preferences.

Checking the LAFN Root Certificate in Thunderbird

  4. Click on the Authorities tab.

  5. Scroll down to the LAFN certificate entry and Select the LAFN CA entry.

  6. Click on the View button.

  7. Check to be sure that the certificate matches the one shown and that The SSL Certificate Authority use is present. If not, then the certificate is not properly installed.

You can now delete the certificate files you downloaded as they are no longer needed. The system should no longer ask you about using LAFN certificates.
